Introduction
My name is Sophia Vaccaro, and I am from Chevy Chase, Maryland in Montgomery County. Currently, I am a sophomore economics major at the University of Maryland, and am planning on completing a general business minor as well. I have grown up in my family’s business and have seen firsthand the tasks and demands of being a business owner, which I believe is an extremely beneficial viewpoint to have when pursuing a career after college. Additionally, I am extremely passionate about and interested in economics, and I enjoy how applicable and important economic concepts are in everyday life. Within the College Park Scholars program Media, Self, and Society, I have been able to be part of a community where I can grow my knowledge and foster my awareness about significant issues in the realm of media. Additionally, the program has demonstrated to me the value of interdisciplinary knowledge, and has allowed me to deepen my studies in areas outside of my major field. From my University of Maryland experience as a whole, I want to be a well educated and informed citizen who is able to make a positive impact on my community and the world. Also, I want to be a dependable person who is able to critically analyze information and apply it as necessary within my future career.
